Two Pedestrians Suffer Life-Threatening Injuries After Vehicle Strikes Them in Scarborough

A teen boy and a young woman rushed to the hospital following a nighttime collision at Midland and Tara.

Two pedestrians are in life-threatening condition after being struck by a vehicle in Scarborough on Tuesday night. Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Midland and Tara avenues at around 9:15 p.m. following reports of a serious collision involving a car and two people on foot.

Toronto police say the victims are a 15-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman, both of whom were transported to the hospital on an emergency run due to the severity of their injuries. Initial information from authorities mistakenly described both pedestrians as adults before officers later corrected the ages.

Investigators report that the driver, a 62-year-old man, remained at the scene following the collision and is cooperating with police. The intersection was closed for several hours overnight as officers documented the scene and collected evidence to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Collision reconstruction specialists are expected to review surveillance footage from the area and speak with witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have not yet released information on potential charges or contributing factors such as speed, lighting conditions, or impairment.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to contact investigators. Residents in the neighbourhood say the intersection often sees steady evening traffic, raising renewed concerns about pedestrian safety along Midland Avenue.
